SYRIAN WAR HAWKS FALL FOR TERRORIST BAIT

The U.S. is on the verge of staging a lightening strike attack against Syrian with cruise missiles. As I labor through the repetitive news on CNN, MSNBC, and FOX, I think back to the words spoken by Al-Quds Al-arabi in 2005, which were borrowed from Saif al-Adel's document entitled, "Al Qaeda's Strategy to the year 2020". I think the bellicose congressmen/women who are going after President Obama for not lashing out at Assad more should read this terrorist manuscript.
Anyone who pleads we "robustly" use our military against Assad because of his massacre of men, women and children should become knowledgeable of al Qaeda's strategy.

The main goal of radical Islam is to bring America to its economic knees by enticing America to do just that...to act more forcefully against terrorist groups and morons like Assad who are strange bedfellows....but bedfellows nevertheless. As this current crisis winds down, Assad will remain in power and grow even more desperate as each moment passes. Hardly reported in the press, for reasons beyond me, the CIA and President Obama arranged (months ago) to supply the Syrian insurgents with hi-tech, anti-tank missiles through the Saudi and Qatari intelligence agencies.
Yes, a secret message from President Barack Obama approved raising the military stakes in his efforts to oust Assad. Could that be why, out of desperation, Assad launched chemical attacks against his people even though he appeared to be winning the battle against the insurgents?
President Obama is "walking the talk" by putting his past threats into reality. A year ago he told the Atlantic Weekly, “It is our estimation that Assad’s days are numbered – it’s a matter not of if, but when.” Then, he told members at the weekend’s G-8 Summit at Camp David, Maryland that "Bashar al-Assad must leave power". Read Obama Supplies Syrian Insurgents With Anti-Tank Missiles

Funny, but months ago on CNN I witnessed a Syrian tank and an APC  blown to bits and the nature of the blast lead me to wonder if these insurgent attacks were from weapons other than roadside bombs. I hoped that the blasts were from shoulder-fired, anti-tank missiles ala President Obama, the CIA, and Saudi Arabian intelligence.
But, back to the here and now. Beyond the pending cruise missile attack, I believe the U.S. will remain acting forcefully without massive, economically-draining, military involvement, like we've been doing. We must make  al Qaeda fail to bring us to our economic knees by the year 2020, as they yearn to do.
In the long-run, I believe we will equip the Syrian rebels with very lethal weapons. Yes, I know, this weaponry may fall into the hands of al Qaeda and Hezbollah terrorists in Syria, but as we see Assad's jet fighters and tanks blown to pieces, we'll rejoice...at least I will.
In the future, I hope to see armed and deadly drone aircraft; special op forces conducting lightning-strike, in-and-out operations from Turkey, Jordon and Israel; and on-going  training and arming of Syrian rebels in Jordon and Turkey.
Al Qaeda will fail in reaching its goal- that the U.S. conduct a massive ground invasion or that a large-scale NATO troop involvement commences in Syria. That would be their dream come true...to draw us all into Syria and enhance their recruitment while economically draining the coiffures of the U.S. and Europe.
To avoid walking into this snare that the followers of the  deceased bin Laden has set for us, we should stay the course (After the brief cruise missile barrage). After all, Outside Opposition Forces May Topple Assad's Despotic Regime. I hope the War Hawks in congress don't fall for al Qaeda's bait. Imagine a sequestered America and economically fragile EU expending billions of scarce monetary resources to intervene in Syria with massive military might. I might email our War Hawks the words spoken by Al-Quds Al-arabi in 2005 as a reminder not to fall into the Al Qaeda financially-draining trap that is officially proclaimed and believed in...by all of radical Islam.
We all grow sick viewing men, women and children shot or gassed to death, lying on the streets of Homs, al-Qubair and Damascus. My stomach tightens in knots as al Qaeda taunts the U.S. into invading another Middle Eastern country. If America and the EU fall for this bait and apply military
might (an invasion in the radical Muslim mindset), then al Qaeda will recruit fighters to drive out the Great Satan. They will, quite deftly, assume the role of a "knight in shining armor" coming to rescue the maiden from a fire-breathing dragon. Al Qaeda will expand the conflict to neighboring countries and continue to engage the U.S. in a long war of economic attrition. Every disenfranchised, poor, jobless, uneducated Muslim youth with no chance for gainful employment will have a new mission in life...to flock to Syria and kill the foreign invaders...to drive the Great Satan from their soil.
Radical Islam has much to lose if we only lob a few cruise missiles their way. In fact, I dread that al Qaeda, Hamas or Hezbollah may do something to provoke us into doing more. They, indeed, yearn for  us to invade Syria with massive forces! Could they sink one of our destroyers cruising offshore? Probably not, they're not docked in a harbor like the USS Cole was. But, their intent is there.
Could it be that the Cold War mentality still lurks in the minds of these War Hawks? If so, they should read America Needs A Formidable Counterintelligence Network To Battle Al Qaeda. America is battling a radical Islamic
ideology that is operating under loose franchises in 60 countries. There is no command or control HQ to invade or lob cruise missiles at. These franchises communicate via the Internet and swarm in an instant to attack American interests anywhere at anytime. And, thanks to Edward Snowden, the NSA will be even more handcuffed to listen in. I pray that the 2004 Madrid train bombings, the 2005 London bombings or the Boston Marathon bombing don't become commonplace events inside America's heartland.
Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, et al, will win the war if we don't drop our Cold War mentality. The intertwined economies of the EU and America cannot take the strain of multiple engagements with large numbers of boots on the ground in middle eastern countries. Al Qaeda  follows Saif al-Adel's belief that such economically-imposed pressure on the West will lead to a collapse of the worldwide economic system, that will result in global political instability, which will result in a global jihad led by al-Qaeda. Their mission? To install a Wahhabi Caliphate across the Western world. True or not, that is their belief.

SUPERPOWER U.S. ADOPTS TERRORIST ASYMMETRIC WARFARE TACTICS

Edward Snowden’s leaked documents about the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) reveals the budgets they requested and the actual funding they are about to receive. I only wish the budgets were greater, but cheer in the fact that the CIA received mucho funds for both defensive and offensive Cyber operations.

Apparently, the Washington Post got their hands on these top secret budget-funding plans from the former N.S.A. contractor Edward J. Snowden…and published only parts of the 178-page document at the request of government officials because “sensitive details are so pervasive” in its description of spying programs.
The document shows that the agencies’ budget request for the year ending Sept. 30 was $52.6 billion, a small decrease since the 2011 peak of $54.6 billion after a decade of rapid spending growth. Of that, the biggest share was taken by the CIA., which carries out traditional human spying and intelligence analysis but also conducts drone strikes against terrorism suspects in Pakistan and Yemen. America has killed top al Qaeda leaders in Yemen.
The CIA. asked for $14.7 billion, more than the requests from the National Security Agency, which sought $10.8 billion, and the National Reconnaissance Office, which operates surveillance satellites, at $10.3 billion.  The U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) employs roughly 107,000 people, not including the tens of thousands of contractors who work in support of the intelligence agencies.
The documents that Snowden pilfered from his job site at the NSA were given to The Guardian, The Post and other publications. Not surprisingly, The Post published the new budget documents, which were apparently among Snowden’s stolen files.
Both Democrats and Republican support “Black Budget” funding for the IC, saying that it’s best to keep our enemies in the dark about how much we’re spending to eavesdrop on them. They say if our enemies learn how much we’re spending for the IC; it would make America less safe. I disagree. I say, let’s scare the hell out of them by broadcasting to the world the billions we’re spending to eavesdrop on them. Let them know that, in addition to the monies Americans are willing to spend on the national intelligence priorities budget, an additional $23 billion is spent each year in a separate military intelligence budget, to hunt them down and kill them. I want our enemies to know that the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) is bent on  permeating their safe havens and unearthing vital information about them in every village and metropolis around the world. Our enemies must know that the CIA’s budget, pre-9/11, accounted for about 10 percent of intelligence spending but has advanced to nearly a third of the total.
Yes, Snowden’s embezzled documents reveal that the NSA spends about $2.5 billion on covert missions and secret overseas operations that include the drone program. Wonderful! I want our radicalized Muslim adversaries to beware of our never-ending thirst to settle a score. It’s not a newsflash to them that the CIA now runs major operations in places they never did before 9/11 and will definitely maintain a presence in Yemen for a long…long while. Our radical Muslim enemies don’t have to read Snowden’s revelations; they’re not obtuse in their thinking and are well aware that America’s battle against them has morphed into a new strategic blueprint. I call it “asymmetric warfare in reverse”.  America, the “Great Satan”, now launches drones and triggers offensive weaponry in precise paramilitary missions against their hideaways in areas where we are not officially at war. No more financially pricey, drawn-out battles with massive numbers of troops; we now execute quick, lightening-strike attacks that kill them…then we vanish, gather covert intelligence, and strike again at a time and place of our choosing. It’s a continuous loop with plenty of feedback and discussion on how to execute the next strike better.

Terrorists beware! Thanks to the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC), the heretofore lumbering superpower America (The "Great Satan" to you) is quickly learning how to operate as agile and undetectable as your small terrorist “sleeper” cells- that’s asymmetric warfare, in reverse.

CIA DIRECTOR BRENNAN WILL LEAVE A LEGACY

John Brennan, the Director of the CIA, attended a gathering at Kilteevan, Co Roscommon in Ireland this week. He accompanied his brother Tom and 93-year-old father Owen at this special homecoming event for people from the village and those who had left it to go elsewhere.

The team organizing the event first wrote to Brennan in January but heard nothing from him. They assumed he wasn’t coming until they heard from his office on July 24th that he had accepted the invitation. “We couldn’t believe it. Everybody thought it wasn’t possible. Isn’t a father coming home with his two sons the essence of what the Gathering is about?”, said Eileen Fahey, chairperson of the Kilteevan Community Development Group.

There was a social which was attended by several hundred people in the Kilteevan community centre which used to be the local Catholic church. It is the building in which Owen Brennan was baptised on April 9th, 1920. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1948 and married an American woman. Their son, John Brennan, was born in New Jersey and eventually was appointed director of the CIA in March by President Obama. Brennan's impressive record as the head of homeland security and counterterrorism were the reasons for the presidential appointment to the CIA.

I'll always remember the famous photograph of President Obama and his White House staff watching the operation that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden. Brennan was among them.

Speaking in Kilteevan, Mr Brennan said he and his family were part of the “great Irish diaspora”. He told how his father had passed down to his family the strong values of “family, community, love of nation and love of God.”

Personally, I think Americans have a great person leading the CIA. Brennan advised Obama on foreign policy and intelligence issues during the 2008 presidential campaign and actually withdrew his name from consideration for Director of the CIA in the first Obama administration over concerns about his support for the use of torture by the CIA under President George W. Bush. Instead, Brennan was appointed Deputy National Security Advisor, a position which did not require Senate confirmation.

Yes, I reiterate! Brennan will leave a legacy at the CIA and I hope his tenure there is a long one. His 25 years with the CIA included work as a Near East and South Asia analyst, as a  station chief in Saudi Arabia, and as director of the National Counterterrorism Center. After leaving government service in 2005, Brennan became CEO of The Analysis Corporation, a security consulting business, and served as chairman of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, an association of intelligence professionals.

DOMESTIC TERRORISM ON THE RISE

Note: This article is republished with permission of Stratfor. It is entitled "Domestic Terrorism: A Persisitent Threat in the U.S."

A string of incidents over the past month has served as a reminder that despite the intense, decade-long focus on the jihadist threat, domestic terrorism is still an issue in the United States. On Aug. 5, Wade Page opened fire on the congregation of a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., killing six and wounding three others. Though Page killed himself and did not leave any evidence explicitly listing his motives for the attack, his long association with the white supremacist movement was clearly a factor in his target choice.

Do you think the embassy closings were an overreaction?

pollcode.com free polls

On Aug. 15, Floyd Corkins shot and wounded a security guard in the lobby of the Family Research Council's office in Washington after the guard blocked him from entering the office. Corkins reportedly was carrying a bag containing a box of ammunition and a number of Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He apparently targeted the Family Research Council because of its public support for Chick-fil-A in the wake of the controversy over statements made by the fast food chain's founder regarding gay marriage. According to media reports, Corkins said, "I don't like your politics," before opening fire.

And on Aug. 16, an off-duty sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded while working as a security guard at an oil refinery in St. John the Baptist Parish, La. When two other deputies responded to a nearby trailer park where a vehicle reportedly associated with the shooting was spotted, the trailers' occupants ambushed and killed the deputies. An additional officer was wounded, along with two of the suspects involved in the shooting, Brian Smith and Kyle Joekel. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including Smith's father and brother. News reports indicate that the group was associated with the sovereign citizen movement, and members of it were under investigation for weapons offenses and previous threats to law enforcement officers in other states.

All three of these incidents stem from distinct ideological streams: the white supremacist skinhead movement, the radical left and the Posse Comitatus/sovereign citizen movement. While unrelated as far as timing and motive, when taken together they show that extremist ideologies subscribed to by certain individuals on the fringes of U.S. society continue to radicalize some to the point that they are willing to take violent action in accordance with those ideologies. Domestic terrorism is thus alive and well. I agree and feel grassroots militancy is a threat to America's national security.

Old Streams: First, we need to remember that terrorism is a tactic practiced by actors from a wide array of ethnic and religious backgrounds who follow various ideologies stretching from anarchism to neo-Nazism. Terrorism does not equal jihadism. Long before jihadism reared its head in the United States, anarchist Leon Czolgosz assassinated President William McKinley, white supremacist James Earl Ray assassinated Martin Luther King Jr., and Posse Comitatus member Gordon Kahl killed three law enforcement officers in a multistate spree of violence.

Indeed, as we look at all of the recent attention being paid to lone assailants and small cells, it must be remembered that anti-government and white supremacist leaders in the United States embraced the leaderless resistance model of operations long before jihadist groups began to promote it.
In 1989, William Pierce wrote his novel Hunter, which detailed the exploits of a fictional lone wolf named Oscar Yeager and was loosely based upon real-life lone wolf Joseph Paul Franklin. In 1990, Richard Kelly Hoskins published a book titled Vigilantes of Christendom, in which he introduced the concept of a "Phineas Priest," or a lone wolf militant chosen and set apart by God to be his agent of vengeance upon the earth. In 1992, former Ku Klux Klan leader Louis Beam published an essay in his magazine, The Seditionist, that provided a detailed outline for moving the white supremacist movement toward a leaderless resistance model. Jihadists such as Abu Musab al-Suri first began to promote leaderless resistance only after the U.S. response to the 9/11 attacks began to severely affect al Qaeda. But even so, groups such as al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula did not really embrace al-Suri's concept of leaderless resistance until late 2009, and the al Qaeda core did not follow suit until 2010.

The recent spate of incidents is also not all that unusual. Other examples stand out in recent years of different streams of domestic radicalism leading to a confluence of attacks by different types of actors. For example, on April 19, 1995, a large truck bomb built by anti-government extremists Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols detonated outside the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people. Five days later, on April 25, timber lobbyist Gilbert Murray became the third fatality and final victim of Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski's long Neo-Luddite bombing campaign.

Another such convergence occurred in the summer of 1999. After conducting arson at three Sacramento-area synagogues, brothers Matthew and Tyler Williams killed a gay couple in their home in Happy Valley, Calif., on July 1. On July 2, World Church of the Creator adherent Benjamin Smith began a multistate shooting spree that killed two and wounded nine and that only ended when he killed himself July 4. On Aug. 10, former Aryan Nations member Buford Furrow mounted an armed assault against a Jewish day care center in Los Angeles, during which he wounded five people before killing a Filipino-American mailman on the street.

Domestic terrorism in the United States is a cyclical phenomenon. There are discernible peaks in that cycle, like those we've discussed -- and like the one the country is currently experiencing. The intense political polarization that has occurred in recent years in the United States, the widespread distrust of the government on both the extreme right and the extreme left, and the current election-year rhetoric will further inflame political passions. This means that the current cycle of domestic terrorism plots and violence is likely to continue for at least the next several months.

Implications: While domestic terrorism is currently at the peak of the cycle in the United States, it is important to remember that most domestic terrorism cases tend to be simple attacks conducted by a lone actor or small cell. There are far more instances of simple bombings, such as those conducted by Olympic Park bomber Eric Rudolph or animal rights bomber Daniel Andreas San Diego, than the sort of large truck bomb attack committed by McVeigh and Nichols, which was an anomaly. Even more common than bombing attacks are the armed assaults that we've seen recently, and they are generally implemented against soft targets -- something we've talked about in relation to other terrorist threats.

And that means that the implications for domestic terrorist threats are essentially the same as they are for the jihadist or Iranian threat. First, it is critical for people to remember that terrorist attacks do not appear out of a vacuum. Individuals planning an attack -- no matter what their motivation or ideology -- follow a discernible cycle, and that cycle involves behavior that can be identified and detected before the attack is conducted. Indeed, it appears that the Smith family and their associates involved in the Louisiana shooting were known by authorities in several jurisdictions and were considered armed and dangerous.

A lengthy but excellent resource with tell-tale signs to watch out for that homegrown terrorists make is "A suggestion to end future Boston Marathon tragedies".

It is also important for individuals to understand that it is physically impossible for governments to protect all potential targets from every sort of attack. This means that many places are vulnerable to an attack, should an assailant choose to strike and should the assailant's preoperational activities go undetected. Therefore, citizens need to assume responsibility for their own security. This involves citizens not only reporting suspicious activity to the authorities, but also practicing good situational awareness and having updated and appropriate contingency plans in place for their families and businesses. A good resource for family protection is "48 tips to protect your family from terrorist attack and natural calamities."

DHS FRAUD HARMS NATIONAL SECURITY

Are you aware of any corruption, fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement or misconduct in the Dept. of Homeland Security? If so, click HERE and report it to the Office of Inspector General (OIG).

It appears that government fraud within our defense and homeland security infrastructure is harming America's national security. How rampant is this draining of resources from the maintenance of public safety? During the period January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2011, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) opened 1,389 allegations for investigation, resulting in issuance of 845 Reports of Investigation, accounting for 318 arrests and 260 convictions. These investigations also led to fines, restitution, recoveries, and administrative cost savings of more than $45 million.

The mission of the Office of Investigations mirrors the Department of Homeland Security’s priorities of working to secure the integrity of our immigration system, borders, ports of entry, and the national transportation system.

The OIG has statutory authority and broad oversight responsibilities for the investigation of allegations of employee criminal misconduct, including corruption and civil rights violations; as well as the investigation of fraud relating to Department programs that involve distribution of federal funds or other benefits. It is the principal agency that  investigates employee corruption. Unfortunately, employee corruption runs rampant and I believe such criminal wrongdoing places Americans at risk. Fraud, waste, and abuse of power in the Department of Homeland Security must be curtailed.

An good example of this mess occurred recently. A former manager at the Homeland Security Department is going to prison for taking nearly $13,000 in bribes from a government contractor.  Derek Matthews, 46, of Harwood, Md., accepted the bribes from a government contracting company in exchange for using his position to help the company find and win contracts.

A U.S. District Court judge recently sentenced Matthews to 15 months in prison and one year of supervised release for using his position at the Federal Protective Service to help a security service firm win more than $31 million in government contracts.

Matthews, who served as deputy assistant director for operations at FPS and later was promoted to regional director for the national capital region, netted $12,500 in bribes from Keith Hedman, an executive at an Arlington, Va., consulting firm, known as Company B in court documents. Company B was a shell company Hedman set up to obtain federal contracts set aside for minority-owned and disadvantaged small businesses.

Hedman in 2011 agreed to pay Matthews $50,000 in monthly installments over a year and a percentage of profits from new business in exchange for Matthews’ help finding and winning contracts. Matthews, who supervised 13,000 employees and 9,000 federal buildings in his job, received three monthly payments before investigators interrupted the scheme.

Hedman pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to commit bribery in connection with Matthews’ scheme, along with conspiracy to commit major government fraud as part of a separate scheme to fraudulently obtain millions in government contract payments. He falsely represented his company to qualify for preferential status as a minority-owned business and was sentenced in June to six years in prison for major government fraud and two years for bribery.

This case was investigated by the Washington Field Office for the DHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration OIG, the Small Business Administration OIG, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, and the General Services Administration OIG. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Chad Golder and Ryan Faulconer prosecuted the case for the U.S. government.
Unfortunately, such fraud is running rampant. Check out the NSA Office of Inspector General press release.
