CIA HAPPENINGS- OCTOBER 29, 2014

**Various Senators, including the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), have complained that the White House and the CIA are withholding “key facts” in the published version of the so-called "torture report". CIA says that isn't the case.

**The CIA and other U.S. spy agencies recruited at least 1,000 former Nazis as spies and informants during the Cold War and went to great lengths to cover up that many of the former Nazis were living in the U.S., the New York.

**GOP pitching itself as a more suitable partner for CIA Director John Brennan and the National Security Agency than the Senate Democratic majority, which has sparred with them over data snooping and adherence to congressional oversight.

**Holy Twitter! When the CIA went on Twitter, within minutes it was the tweet heard round the world, reports CBS News correspondent Julianna Goldman. "We had 1,000 new followers joining us a minute around the world, and we were just watching this on the computers, just stunned."

WILL MAJOR TERRORIST ATTACK HIT U.S.?

I'm referring to terrorism conducted by radical Islam, not homegrown violence carried out by the KKK, white supremacists, anti-government groups, fascist extremists, Christian extremists, Black militancy, etc. Terrorism has been defined as "the systematic use or threatened use of violence to intimidate a population or government and thereby effect political, religious, or ideological change."
Please indicate if you feel a major terrorist attack will occur inside America within a year, and if you believe so, what type of attack will it be?

STARBUCKS GOES "CLOAK AND DAGGER" AT CIA

It's not "business as usual" for the Starbucks franchise housed inside the CIA headquarters in Langley, VA. This particular chain, code-named "Store Number 1", operates much differently than their other 12,000+ stores in the U.S.- not surprising when it must accommodate clandestine spymasters working for the most powerful spy organization in the world.

Servers do not ask for the customer's name (which they normally write on the coffee cup to expedite things), for undercover agents grow uncomfortable when someone asks for it. They can't give the Starbucks' server their a.k.a. handles either, for that nom de plume, if discovered by the wrong people, could get them killed on an overseas assignment. Even the receipts the baristas hand back have "Store Number 1" cryptically printed on them.
Each maître d' goes through a robust interview and background check before they are even told that they will be working at the CIA Starbucks. There are nine baristas working there and whenever they leave their work area, a CIA "minder" escorts them. All are often briefed about security risks and must report if someone is really interested in where they work or asks too many questions about their employment. They can't even blow their own horns about working inside the CIA at nightclubs or parties and, if asked, can only tell friends, family members and acquaintances that they work in a federal building.
And what about the wonderful Starbucks Awards program with those loyalty deals? It would be great to offer America's spy force this great program where they can get free drink and food rewards, custom offers, early access to new Starbuck products and make easy payments with their mobile app. Well, the program is absent at Store Number 1, for CIA clandestine operatives could be potentially exposed if the data on their loyalty cards fell into the wrong hands.

Yes, Store Number 1 is a cloak-and-dagger Starbucks operation. It is also one of their busiest, for the customers remain captive, all day long. The intelligence analysts, undercover operatives and case officers, economists, engineers, geographers and cartographers who work on the CIA's highly-secured campus are not permitted to leave the "office" and go downtown for a coffee break in the middle of the day. The caffeine-addicted staff flocks to "stealthy Starbucks", as they code named it, for a respite from gathering intelligence, planning covert operations, and preparing the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) that provides the president of the United States with up-to-the-minute intelligence on sensitive international situations.
Those working at the CIA need and deserve a break from their windowless cubicles to sip an Espresso with bittersweet mocha sauce and steamed milk topped with whipped cream while munching on a buttery muffin stuffed with seasonal blueberries, yogurt and honey. Hopefully, they can unwind at Store Number 1 and return refreshed to their duties. After all, if they don't remain attentive and vigilant for hours on end as they pour through classified documents...people could die.

GET FOREIGN SPY AGENCY HAPPENINGS!

Intelligence agencies
FOREIGN SPY AGENCY HAPPENINGS! is a worthwhile resource for professionals working within the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) as well as for authors of spy thriller novels, terrorism and counterterrorism scholars, journalists and serious spy buffs. Simply scroll down the right margin to it, then click on any one of the spy agencies listed. Daily newspaper and magazine articles along with recent journal writings about the agency appear.
The number of foreign intelligence services increases as we add to Foreign Spy Agency Happenings! each day. We try to focus on the foreign intelligence branches of each country, not on their security intelligence sections. It is difficult to do, because they often overlap or are integrated together. Security intelligence focuses on domestic threats, such as homegrown terrorism and espionage. The foreign intelligence sections are involved in information-gathering (spying) on foreign governments to obtain classified political, economic, military and technology secrets.

Love the Caribbean islands? Enjoy spy thriller novels and TV shows? Then you'll dig the online spy series "Corey Pearson- CIA Spymaster in the Caribbean". Get first 3 complementary episodes immediately!

Some of these agencies have been involved in assassinations, arms trafficking, an occasional coups d'état and other covert operations. For the most part, in democratic societies, their actions are geared to protect the citizenry from harm by employing analysts and by sending trained undercover agents abroad to search for threats and to give early warnings of impending threats to the homeland.
All spy agencies, when necessary, spy on each other. However, the U.S., England and Canada have an agreement not to. They spend much energy and resources spying upon their perceived enemies to ferret out possible cruel intentions and report them to policy-makers so these nefarious plots can be acted upon preemptively.
Not surprisingly, much of the intelligence gathered concerns the military capabilities of foreign adversaries. They also engage in counterintelligence to defend their nation against the efforts of foreign spy services to steal classified documents and valuable technological secrets.
I hope you find the FOREIGN SPY AGENCY HAPPENINGS! resource in the right margin helpful in your pursuits. Feel free to let us know on the Secure Contact Form.
