CIA spy thriller MISSION OF VENGEANCE features Sosua, Dominican Republic

CIA operative meets contact in Sosua, Dominican Republic

The MISSION OF VENGEANCE spy thriller features Sosúa, a beach town in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic. CIA operative Corey Pearson chose the beautiful town to create a safe house in because it is located only 4 miles from the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in San Felipe de Puerto Plata… perfect for quick and easy access and departure! The town is accessed primarily by Camino Cinco, or Highway 5, which runs along the country's North coastline.

CIA case officers are trained at detecting and "doubling" spies, convincing them to betray their countries and work on the behalf of the U.S. The term spy refers to human agents that are recruited by case officers of a foreign intelligence agency. The CIA officers gain vital intelligence from their recruited spies, sensitive intelligence that the foreign government does not want America to know about.

Many CIA officers prefer to communicate with their spies (“assets”) in person, without computers or phones being involved at all. Because this isn't always possible, the next best thing is to use end-to-end encryption. But there’s always the chance that the encryption may be decoded. Hence, they prefer personal meetings.

CIA operatives control the frequency, content, and duration of each personal meeting, which is done infrequently. In the interim, intelligence passed to them by a conscientious agent who may have secret writing materials and photographic equipment, etc. is done through a system of “dead drops” and signals, and one-way radio communications.

However, there is often the need for a personal, one-on-one meeting. They are held at intervals of one and a half to two years and sometimes even longer, and the meeting place is often in the dead of night, at a remote location, with one person on foot, the other in a vehicle. It is a dangerous business, and if caught, both the CIA case officer and his/her spy risk long prison sentences, or possible execution.

In the spy thriller MISSION OF VENGEANCE, Corey Pearson eschews anything to do to do with impersonal means of communication. He usually shuns dead drops and secret writings and doesn’t feel making contact via a local principal agent or a cutout is satisfactory. Since Corey is dealing with a former Russian KGB agent who wants to defect, a personal meeting is essential. Several face-to-face meetings take place, including several at a CIA safe house in Sousa, Dominican Republic.

Corey knows how skilled former Soviet Union KGB spies are in counterintelligence and worries his defector may have been placed under intense surveillance. So, MISSION OF VENGEANCE reveals the spy tradecraft that Corey uses to ensure a secure meeting.
