I am reading the spy thriller Enemy at the
Gates with Mitch Rapp, and am getting the impression that fictional POTUS Anthony Cook smacks of former
President Trump, cunning and autocratic, and distrustful of the CIA. Anybody
who read this spy thriller, do you think so, too, that it’s a takeoff on Trump?
I
have always enjoyed Vince Flynn. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1996 and
passed away in 2013 at age 47. His fictional character, Mitch Rapp, starred in
Flynn’s series of novels and in the film adaptation of American Assassin.
Since Flynn's death, Kyle Mills has continued the series. The Mitch Rapp character
first appeared in Flynn’s Transfer of Power. If you plan to read his spy
thriller series, I recommend reading it in the chronological order that the
books were written in order to truly enjoy the journey. They kind of build upon each
other.
The
Survivor was begun by Vince Flynn but was finished by Kyle Mills after the Twin
Cities writer died of prostate cancer in 2013. Flynn was hard at work on The
Survivor, his 14th Mitch Rapp novel, when his illness took him away from
us. Kyle Mills became his ghost writer, who had also written three novels under
Robert Ludlum's name (Jason Bourne).
I
miss Vince Flynn immensely. RIP, and thanks for the many hours of reading
enjoyment. In tribute to Vince Flynn, I hope you enjoy this video of him
revealing the origins of Mitch Rapp in AMERICAN ASSASSIN:
Robert Morton is a member of the Association
of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), enjoys writing about the U.S.
Intelligence Community, and relishes traveling to the Florida Keys and Key
West, the Bahamas and Caribbean. He combines both passions in his Corey Pearson- CIA Spymaster
series. Check out his latest spy thriller: MISSION
OF VENGEANCE.
