The CIA backed the Scorpions |
Some swear that
the CIA wrote the 1990 hit song “Wind of Change” but the Scorpions singer Klaus
Meine says he did- regardless, a wind of change did occur, and the Berlin Wall
was torn down 2 months after its release. Was the CIA somehow behind this
politically anthemic power ballad that the West German rock band Scorpions
sang?
I'm sure the CIA didn't write the song. It
was a protest song at the Cold War's end against Communistic control of East
Berlin, which was crumbling. I'm sure, though, that the CIA promoted it like
crazy all over Eastern Europe since it was a rallying cry for freedom.
Yes, I’m certain the CIA promoted the song by the rock band 'Scorpions' during the Cold War; after all, it pumped funds into abstract expressionists like Jackson Pollack and Mark Rothko, to make American expressive art popular in contrast to rigid Soviet art. Ditto with the Scorpions.
