Much
of the spy thriller PENUMBRA DATABASE was written on a cool little cay, called
Lubber’s Cay, located off the larger Bahamian out island of Abaco.
You will enjoy this video of Lubber’s, only
a mile long and half-mile wide, but decorated with colorful Hibiscus plants and
pristine, isolated beaches. A small fish market afforded my wife and I with
plenty of grouper and yellow-tails to barbecue outside our small cottage; it’s
so revitalizing to eat delicious fresh fish that had been swimming in the ocean
only hours before.
The video shows the many places to kayak, snorkel and hike. The small cottage served us well, remote and peaceful, nestled in
the tropical forest. It’s where most of the PENUMBRA DATABASE was written.
A chicken visited us daily and a stray cat sunbathed on our small porch as if
he owned the place.
We rented a Boston Whaler and cruised the
Sea of Abaco, past Tahiti Beach, on the way to the idyllic village of Hopetown on
Elbow Cay. I am still awed by a mysterious mansion built on a tiny deserted cay
along the way (It's in the video, if anyone knows its history, please let me know) We docked in Hopetown and strolled through the village.
We
ended the day by cruising across the Sea of Abaco back to Lubber’s Cay, where
we stopped off at Cracker P’s, famous for its home-produced hot sauce, which I
doused on their Mahi Mahi fish sandwich. Delicious!
Enjoy the video!
