From Seafood Shack to Spy Haven: The Story of Sosua's Waterfront Restaurant

The Waterfront Restaurant is used as 'safe place' for CIA operatives to meet contacts in the MISSION OF VENGEANCE spy thriller

The Waterfront Restaurant in Sosua, Dominican Republic is located right on the shore of the picturesque Sosua Bay. The scenery surrounding the restaurant is breathtaking, with the gin-colored tropical waters and the imposing Mount Isabel de Torres rising in the distance. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a casual ambiance that is both inviting and relaxing. The restaurant has a spacious back patio where you can enjoy a meal while taking in the stunning view of the bay.

Little wonder it’s been a popular destination for locals and tourists alike for many years. Its history dates back to the 1970s when it was first established as a small seafood shack on the beach. Over the years, the restaurant has expanded, and it now occupies a prime location on the waterfront, with both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

The Waterfront Restaurant has welcomed many famous guests over the years, including celebrities, politicians, and business leaders: former US President Bill Clinton, singer Julio Iglesias, and actors Johnny Depp and Matt Dillon have dined there. The restaurant's reputation for serving delicious seafood dishes and its stunning waterfront location have made it a favorite among the rich and famous.

The restaurant has also been featured in several movies and TV shows over the years. In the 1980s, it was used as a filming location for the popular TV series Miami Vice. More recently, scenes from the hit movie The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp, were filmed there.

Despite its popularity among the rich and famous, the Waterfront Restaurant remains a casual and relaxed dining destination that is accessible to everyone. The restaurant's staff are known for their friendly and welcoming demeanor, and the menu features a wide range of dishes to suit all tastes and preferences. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner for two or a fun family outing, the Waterfront Restaurant in Sosua, Dominican Republic is a must-visit destination.

I fell in love with the place, and after sipping a Bahama Mama cocktail in its palm frond thatched-roof bar, I couldn’t resist writing a scene that unfolded there. Here’s a snippet:

CIA spymaster Corey Pearson, the protagonist of the 'MISSION OF VENGEANCE' spy thriller, preferred to sit at a back-patio table with his back to the bay, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings while reading through Sanchez' crime scene report (Sanchez is the chief of the Dominican Republic’s homicide division, and was also a paid informant recruited by Corey).

The absence of security cameras at the Waterfront Restaurant made it an ideal spot for Corey to focus on his work. The entrance to the patio was also visible from his table, enabling him to keep an eye on the patrons as they arrived and to size them up.

The Waterfront Restaurant's menu is diverse and features a range of seafood dishes that are the restaurant's specialties. One of their most popular dishes is the special of the day, which consists of a whole grilled lobster, shrimp, and Chilean sea bass smothered in a garlic butter sauce.

Corey, upon seeing this dish being served to another table, ordered three servings and a pitcher of margaritas. The waiter, who spoke broken English, was grateful for the generous tip that Corey gave him.

As Corey enjoyed his meal, he was joined by his colleagues, Murray and Sweeney, who were similarly armed with Glock 30s concealed in their waistbands. The trio sat down to discuss their mission while enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious food. The Waterfront Restaurant's relaxed ambiance, scenic beauty, and mouthwatering dishes made it the perfect spot for them to plan their next move. End of snippet.

The Waterfront Restaurant in Sosua, Dominican Republic, has something to offer for everyone, from the rich and famous to spies on a mission. With its stunning waterfront location, friendly staff, diverse menu, and casual atmosphere, it's a must-visit destination for anyone.

So whether you're in the mood for a romantic dinner, a business meeting, or for the chance to run into Corey Pearson and find yourself in the middle of a secret spy mission, the Waterfront has got you covered!
